Can you repair hard drives? | |
Answer | |
If the drive is inaccessible as in it won't respond to diagnostic software tools for example, then data recovery or disk drive repairs are a specialist task outside the scope of services offered by Riches Informatique. However, if the hard drive is accessible as in it can communicate with software, we can do our best to recover the data on that failing hard drive. We cannot, "fix" a hard drive to permanently stop it from failing or getting any worse. Hard drive data recovery is an automated process that takes a long time if your hard disk drive is badly damaged and / or if the hard disc is particularly large in capacity. Unless you want to recover just a few specific files, data recovery takes hours and hours to complete, if not days! We can also try to clone your hard drive, avoiding those files that reside on the parts of the hard drive that have gone bad and can't be read properly.
If you suspect that a hard drive is failing, you need to copy your data off and onto a replacement drive without delay! If you are interested in knowing more about the condition of your hard drive, search the internet about S.M.A.R.T and read all about what it can do and how it works. And there are several software utilities that will do a super job at determining the health of your hard-drive.
Also, if after testing your hard drive, it proves to be healthy but noisy, don't be too concerned because some hard drives are noisier than others.
